Southern Comfort

Tittle: Southern Comfort

Genre: Documentary
Year: 2001
Plot: An amazingly powerful film that documents the love of two transsexual people in rural Georgia.
A truly remarkable film that profiles six brave people who have chosen to cross the gender barrier while living in rural Georgia. There are many remarkable things about these people and this film - first and foremost is the love is they share which is beautifully conveyed to the screen. The documentary takes a crisp approach to telling us the story of the last year in the life of Robert Eads, a man born woman and his love for Lola Cola, a woman born man. The film takes us to the preparations for the annual Southern Comfort transsexual conference of this couple and their friends: Maxwell and his love Casey and Bo and Stephanie - fascinating stories all. A documentary is supposed to show us stories that we wouldn't ordinarily bump into and Southern Comfort is a home run on that score. The filmmaker deserves kudos for bringing these remarkable people into our living rooms.
Southern Comfort swept 20 major film festivals worldwide in awards including Sundance - Grand Jury prize, Berlin Film Festival - Special Audience Award, Provincetown Film Festival - Best Documentary. The film follows 52-year-old Robert Eads, a wise-cracking cowboy who was born female, in the last year of his life as he falls into a passionate romance with Lola, a vivacious and magnetic woman who was born male. An illuminating and deeply moving film, Southern Comfort has a rare blend of humor, tragedy and romance. source tlavideo
