Being John Malkovich Profound Meditation on Consciousness, Identity, Gender & Reality

Tittle: Being John Malkovich
Genre:  Comedy, Drama
Year: 1999
Plot: This wild, dark and at times quite funny little gem (with a wonderful lesbian/transgendered twist) is reminiscent of Eraserhead (though decidedly more accessible) and te films off Jan Svankmajer and the Brother Quay. John Cusack stars s the haplless Craig Schwartz, an immesely ttalented puppeteer who toils in obscurity and lives in a shabby New York City apartment with his dotting but dumpy wife Lotte (an almost unrecognizable Diaz). While working in a bizarre office on the 71/ flooor of a building, he stumbles upon a hidden doorway which, when entered, transports people into the psyche (body? Id?) of John Malkovich and then, after about 15 minutes, spits tem out onn the Jersey turnpike. He quickly joins forces with his coldly beautiful co-worker Maxine (Catherine Keener) to market this “portal” in the off-hours. Lesbians will enjoy the second half of the film when wife Lotte takes the tour and gets great pleasure in “being” a man sexually, a feeling that leads her to consider transsexualism. Adding to the sexual confusion is when Maxine begins dating Malkovich and Lotte enters him when the two make loe. Soon MMaxine will only have sex with Malkovich when she knows Lotte is inside him! In fat, she coonfesses to both Craig and Lotti that she loves Lotte, but only when Lotte is inside John. There’s more to this lesbian spin, but its best just to watch the film!  source tlavideo

M Butterfly A Sizzling Romance, Deception & Betrayal.

Tittle: M Butterfly
Genre: Drama
Year: 1993
Plot:Jeremy Irons and John Lone star as lovers in this far-fetched story of a man in a relationship with another man who doesn't know that his partner has a penis. We think new eyeglasses might have been warranted. Also features some delicious full-frontal nudity from real lady Annabel Leventon as she sits naked on a bed waiting for Irons to have sex with her.
David Henry Hwang's screen version of his hit play, while fascinating, is something of a letdown. Inspired by a true story, the tragic (and far-fetched) tale is about a man's self-delusional love for and betrayal by an alluring Chinese man who pretends to be a woman. A deer-in-the-headlights-like Jeremy Irons stars as Rene Gallimard, a nebbish accountant at the French Embassy who falls in love with an opera singer, Song Liling (John Lone). As the two begin an affair, Gallimard rises in rank at the embassy, unknowingly disseminating government secrets. The action unfolds slowly and the film's emotional level never seems to rise above the simmering point of grand tragedy; though the relationship between Irons and Lone is romantic, tender and touching. Lone, in heavy makeup and beautifully dressed, plays a convincingly demure pre-op transgender woman.     source/buy it at tlavideo

Life is Hot in Cracktown Gritty, Hard Realities

Life is Hot in Cracktown
Genre: Drama

Year:2009
Plot: Based on writer/director Buddy Giovinazzo’s best-selling novel, Life is Hot in Cracktown shows the gritty, hard realities of a neighborhood, as well as the struggling, proud people who try to survive them. Life Is Hot in Cracktown explores how crack cocaine infiltrated the streets of urban America by following the journeys of four people whose lives are on a tragic collision course
Marybeth (Kerry Washington) is a pre-op transsexual working as a prostitute and living with her lover, Benny, a small time burglar. In spite of their lines of work, they live a somewhat normal life as a married couple. Marybeth works the streets in the hopes of saving enough money for her final sex change operation, so then she and Benny can be married. Meanwhile, Manny (Victor Rasuk) is busy pulling double shifts while his wife, Concetta (Shannyn Sossamon), cares for their sickly infant son in their run-down apartment. By night Manny works at a 24-hour bodega frequented by junkies, drug dealers, and prostitutes, and by day keeps the peace as a security guard at a welfare hotel. One of the residents at that hotel is Willy, a ten-year-old boy who lives with his mother (Illeana Douglas) and her abusive boyfriend. Willy begs for money on the street so he and Susie can get some fast food. But it's dangerous out there, because volatile gangster Romeo (Evan Ross) is still searching the streets for his brother's killer, and he won't hesitate to terrorize anyone unfortunate enough to cross his warpath. Lara Flynn Boyle, Brandon Routh, Desmond Harrington, and RZA co-star. [D-Man2010]
Note: As a Transgender I really appreciate & admire Mr. Giovinazzo, Kerry and the wonderful cast of the movie. For being sensitive & showing some of the real struggles living as a transgender. I think Kerry's acting was good but as Marybeth a TS. She was too fishy. She looked like a fag hag. I must say the make up artist did a great job trying to make her look like a TS.

Sweet November Love Story with a Ubiquitous Ad Exec/Drag Queen Neighbor

Tittle: Sweet November

Genre: Drama,Comedy,Romance
Year: 2001
Plot: Mistaking quirkiness for character, glibness for intellect, this pointless remake of the Sandy Dennis-Anthony Newley 1968 romantic drama desperately tries to be relevant but winds up only being desperate. In one of his worst performances, Reeves plays Nelson, a high-powered ad exec who meets in horribly cutesy fashion the kooky Sarah (Theron), a woman who inexplicably lives with a man for one month to boost his "confidence," and then moves on to the next one 30 days later. Nelson is Mr. November. You don't need a crystal ball to predict that the materialistic Nelson falls for this bohemian girl, ready to renounce his capitalist ways all for true love. A premise such as this may have worked in the '60s, but for early 21st century it absolutely creaks. The two stars appeared together in Devil's Advocate, and they continue to have a nice rapport. Their chemistry is sabotaged, however, by poor writing, featherlight characterizations and a sleep-inducing story. Lost in all this is a sly turn by Isaacs (the bad guy in The Patriot) as Sarah's neighbor, an even more high-powered ad exec/drag queen. source tlavideo

Normal He's a Woman in a Man's Body

Tittle:Normal
Genre:  Drama

Year:2003
Plot: A stunning film about a transgendered man in a small Illinois town starring Jessica Lange and Tom Wilkinson.
Lesbian writer/director Jane Anderson, who directed and wrote the stunning 1961 segment of If These Walls Could Talk 2 has given us quite a gift with Normal. Irma (Jessica Lange) and Roy (Tom Wilkinson) are celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary in the Baptist church hall where they are quite active. When the minister salutes their union, Roy mysteriously faints. After tests prove that he's healthy physically, their minister calls them in to see if he can help. Roy confesses that it's not work stress but something far more serious - he's a woman in a man's body and he's decided to have gender re-assignment surgery. The look on Irma and the minister's face is something beyond shock. That evening Irma throws Roy out in disgust. Not only does Roy have to face his family with this news, but also his blue-collar co-workers and his conservative church. Roy finds spots of support in his life. Irma comes around because she loves Roy. Their daughter Patty Ann, with gender questions of her own, shows complete open acceptance. And Roy's boss agrees not only to keep him, but to promote Roy as a way for him to fend off any harm. Unfortunately the church offers no welcome to their transgendered follower.
This solid made-for-cable film is based on a stage play, Looking for Normal, and has been successfully adapted to film. The acting is first-rate all around, particularly Jessica Lange and Tom Wilkinson. While seeing Tom Wilkenson in clothing we normally ascribe to women might seem shocking at first, we get used to it, just as Irma must. Normal is a memorable film about a subject that is changing the way we view the world. source tlavideo

Markova Comfort Gay - A True to Life Story

Tittle: Markova  aka: Markova Comfort Gay

Genre:Drama,Biography,War

Year:2001
Plot:A very unusual drama, based on true events, of a Filipino gay man imprisoned by the Japanese in WWII and forced to be a sex slave. This film is for lovers of gay history and international film -- don't expect sex scenes or gorgeous hunks -- just a great story about a flaming queer from a generation past.
aking his cue from television interviews with "comfort women" (Filipino women forced into prostitution for occupying Japanese soldiers), director Gil Porte's unique drama focuses on the gays, drag queens, and transgender people who also suffered at the hands of the occupying forces.
The time is the present. Walter Dempster Jr., alias Markova, a resident in the "Golden Gays" rest home in Manila and he decides he must speak out. He begins to tell an initially skeptical reporter of his wartime life. He reveals that as a child, the flamboyant Walter was constantly bullied by his older brother. He becomes Walterina – a flaming adolescent drag queen. When the Japanese occupy the Philippines he finds himself suffering terrible violence from the soldiers who originally believed him to be female. Eventually, he becomes the regal den mother to a flamboyant – and at times bitchy – group of fellow cross-dressers who spend their time in forced sex work. When the country is liberated, post-war life has its own set of difficulties for Markova.
A great, if unusual, Filipino melodrama peppered with amazing production numbers that must be seen to be believed. A metaphor for the political and sexual situation in the Philippines: from oppressive ultra-conservative to a slow but progressive ongoing march towards some kind of liberation. And for trivia fans: the young, adult and older Markova are Dolphy Quizon and his two real-life sons; keeping it in the family has never had such resonance. Hedwig and the Angry Inch

Tittle:Hedwig and the Angry Inch
Genre: Musical,Drama,Comedy,

Year:2001
Plot:Hedwig is a wildly original, transcendent, gender-bending rock-n-roll epic; an essential masterpiece of queer cinema.
First developed at the NYC queer rock club Squeezebox, and then a long-running Off-Broadway show, Hedwig hits the big and home video screens in all its bewigged glory compliments of creators John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask. In the film, Mitchell directs and stars as Hansel/Hedwig, a little gay boy/aspiring rock star raised in Communist East Berlin who desperately wants to move to the West. He meets Luther, an African-American G.I. who encourages him to have a sex change, marry and escape with him to Kansas. The operation is botched and Hansel is left as a boy with a teeny weeny! Once there, in trailer park hell, Hedwig is abandoned with little more than memories and the remnant of that sex change: an “angry inch.”
Hedwig and the Angry Inch has a rich score filled with melodic ballads and out-and-out rockers that propel the telling of Hedwig's incredible story. Hedwig has allowed himself to be victimized all his life - his dick has been stolen, his act has been appropriated and his life has been controlled by others until the self-affirming end of the film. Special mention must be made of Emily Hubley's whimsical animated sequences and the fantastic costumes and wigs. Hedwig is brilliant filmmaking, don't miss it! The DVD comes with an amazing 83 minute documentary entitled Whether You Like it or Not: The Story of Hedwig that tells of Hedwig's genesis.
